A Lake in the Hills man was arrested after police found him distributing child pornography on a messaging platform to multiple users.
Andrew N. Gross, 19, of the 4600 block of Courtney Drive in Lake in the Hills, was charged with three counts of distribution of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography.
The Crystal Lake Police Department investigated the case and arrested Gross around 10:30 a.m. June 18, according to court records.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Gross possessed several videos showing children under the age of 13 being sexually assaulted.
Gross distributed those videos to at least three users on the instant messaging app Kik, the complaint said.
It is unclear what led detectives to discover the crime.
A McHenry County judge ordered Gross held in the McHenry County Jail on a $150,000 bond during a June 19 bond hearing.
A family member of Gross posted $15,000 cash for his bond and he was released from jail on June 19.
Gross is scheduled to appear in court again on July 16 for a preliminary hearing.
