Fire officials said that a kitchen fire left a home uninhabitable and its residents displaced Monday evening in Crystal Lake.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 7:56 p.m. Monday to the 100 block of Eastview Avenue in Crystal Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Crystal Lake Fire Battalion Chief Bob Kohley said fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from an unoccupied single-family residence.
Firefighters found and quickly extinguished a smoldering fire in the kitchen.
Kohley said the fire caused approximately $50,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
The home was declared uninhabitable and the residents were assisted with arranging alternative housing.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, Kohley said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was assisted by several nearby fire departments along with the Crystal Lake Police Department.
