A bicyclist was hit by a car Wednesday evening in Woodstock and suffered life-threatening injuries that required a medical helicopter to land near the scene, officials said.

The Woodstock Fire-Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 7:17 p.m. Wednesday to Dean Street and Lucas Road in Woodstock for a report of a vehicle crash.

A spokesman for the Woodstock Fire-Rescue District said crews arrived to find a small passenger vehicle in the intersection.

Crews also located an unconscious male victim, who had been riding a bicycle, down on the roadway.

Paramedics began immediate lifesaving measures on the bicyclist, who had suffered multiple traumatic injuries in the collision.

Due to the severity of injuries, a LifeNet medical helicopter was requested and landed nearby in the football field of Creekside Middle School, located at 3201 Hercules Road.

The man was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries. His condition was not immediately available.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the passenger car, declined medical attention.

The Woodstock Police Department has not released any details yet on how the crash was caused or who was at fault.

The crash remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department and Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).
