Police say a driver was taken into custody after fleeing the scene of an injury crash in Libertyville Thursday morning that caused Route 21 to be shut down for several hours.
The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 4:08 a.m. Thursday to Milwaukee Avenue and Winchester Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze said officers located a Chrysler minivan and a Honda sedan that had crashed at the intersection.
Both vehicles had extensive damage, Goze said, adding that officers learned the driver of the Honda fled the scene southbound Route 21 on foot.
Officers later located the suspect driver in front of a cafe near Route 21 and Newberry Avenue.
Paramedics transported the driver of the Chrysler along with the suspect to Advocate Condell Medical Center.
Both of them sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Goze said.
Route 21 was shut down from Alder Park to Winchester Road for five hours due to the investigation. The roadway was reopened around 9 a.m. Thursday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department. It is unclear if the fleeing driver has been charged yet.
