A Lakemoor man wanted for fleeing from police and driving into oncoming traffic lanes of traffic on Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake has been arrested.
Martin Gonzalez, 18, of the 500 block of Summer Boulevard in Lakemoor, was charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing police, fleeing in an attempt to elude an officer and reckless driving.
Court documents show that deputies with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Gonzalez on June 24.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Gonzalez fled from the sheriff’s deputy in a dark gray Ford Mustang.
The sheriff’s deputy had activated their lights and sirens but Gonzalez fled at a high rate of speed on Route 14 near Pingree Road in Crystal Lake.
He drove through two traffic control devices on Route 14 and had a “disregard for safety of persons” when he drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 14, the complaint said.
A McHenry County judge approved an arrest warrant following the incident and the sheriff’s office arrested Gonzalez on Wednesday.
Deputies found the man in possession of a small amount of cannabis at the time of his arrest and charged him with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
A judge ordered the man held in the McHenry County Jail on a $76,500 bond. He would need to post $7,650 cash in order to be released.
A bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
