The coroner has identified a Round Lake Beach man who died after a motorcycle crash on Sunday in Fox Lake where Good Samaritans tried performing CPR on the man.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 5:10 p.m. Sunday to Route 134 and Oakside Avenue in Fox Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the crash involved a single vehicle โ€” a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein said the driver was identified as Dennis J. Kane, 74, of Round Lake Beach.

Kane was driving the motorcycle eastbound on Route 134.

The motorcycle traveled onto the gravel shoulder and the driver attempted to drive back onto the roadway, Lee said, adding “[They] were enjoying a nice ride sightseeing” when the crash occurred.

The motorcycle ended up traveling off the shoulder into the ditch. Kane sustained critical injuries.

Lee said that Good Samaritans who witnessed the crash rushed over to the motorcycle and performed CPR on the man.

Paramedics transported Kane to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Rein said that an autopsy was conducted on Kane on Wednesday. Toxicology results are pending.

Investigators believe the crash was operator error and there is no indication of alcohol being a contributing factor, Lee said. A passenger on the motorcycle survived with minor injuries.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist the Fox Lake Police Department in the investigation.

Route 134 was closed for several hours Sunday evening while investigators worked at the scene.
