Alexander A. Mesa, 33, of Round Lake.

A Round Lake man who exposed himself and took an upskirt video of a child at a McHenry store has been sentenced to 16 days in jail.

Alexander A. Mesa, 33, of the 500 block of West Caldwell Drive in Round Lake, was charged with public indecency by lewd exposure, disorderly conduct, unauthorized video recording and live video transmission, and attempted unauthorized video recording and live video transmission.

An indictment by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office said Mesa was at the Dick’s Sporting Goods, 3436 Shoppers Drive in McHenry, on August 4, 2020.

Mesa “exposed his sex organ in a lewd manner” with the intent to “satisfy the defendant’s sexual desire,” the indictment said.

On the same day, Mesa then went to Old Navy, located in the same shopping complex as Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The indictment said Mesa put his phone, which was recording video, under the skirt of a girl under the age of 18 inside the Old Navy store.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reached a negotiated plea deal with the man in late June, court records show.

Mesa pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized video recording and live video transmission, a Class A misdemeanor, in exchange for prosecutors dismissing his other charges.

McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea deal and sentenced Mesa to 16 days in jail and one year of conditional discharge.

Mesa will also have to pay $734 in court fines and fees and undergo a sex offender evaluation.

Mesa will be released from the McHenry County Jail on Friday, jail records show.
