A Marengo man was arrested for punching a police officer and trying to bite him after he had attacked a family member at a Marengo home on Thursday.

Nikolis D. Thurnau, 32, of the 500 block of Grace Street in Marengo, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer and two counts of domestic battery.

The Marengo Police Department responded on Thursday to a home in the 500 block of Grace Street in Marengo for a report of a domestic disturbance call.

Officers arrived and learned Thurnau caused bodily harm to a woman, who is a family member, by pushing her to the ground.

Thurnau then hit the woman in her pelvic area, injuring her, after he pushed her to the ground, according to a criminal complaint.

Thurnau punched a responding police sergeant and attempted to bite him, the complaint said.

The man was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail where he remains held on a $50,000 bond. 

Court documents show Thurnau is on mandatory supervised release for the charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Thurnau, who would need to post $5,000 cash in order to be released from jail, is scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing on Tuesday.
