Police say that a drunk driver was arrested after he slammed into the back of a motorcycle, causing the rider to suffer life-threatening injuries Thursday morning.

The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 2:06 a.m. Thursday to Route 120 and Chapel Hill Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.

McHenry Police Public Affairs Officer Michael Spohn said a gold 2011 Toyota Camry and a gray 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle were involved in the crash just north of the intersection.

A preliminary investigation determined the Harley Davidson motorcycle was facing southbound on Chapel Hill Road stopped at the intersection in the center lane.

A Toyota Camry traveling southbound on Chapel Hill Road struck the motorcycle from behind, Spohn said.

The driver of the Harley Davidson, a 37-year-old Antioch man, was transported by paramedics to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with life-threatening injuries. He is still alive and did not die, Spohn said.
