A 29-year-old employee was killed after a 91-year-old woman ran him over with her vehicle as she was exiting the service bay of Jiffy Lube in McHenry, police said.
The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 12:11 p.m. Friday to Jiffy Lube, 1807 North Richmond Road in McHenry, for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Michael Spohn said a beige 2004 Jeep Liberty was exiting the vehicle service bay.
The Jeep, driven by a 91-year-old woman, accelerated and struck a 29-year-old employee of Jiffy Lube, Spohn said.
The man was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry where he later died from his injuries.
The 91-year-old driver of the Jeep, identified as Susan Weisenberger, did not report any injuries at the scene and was released pending the investigation, Spohn said. The Jeep had no passengers.
The McHenry County Regional Crash Assistance Team responded to the crash scene.
The team consists of officers from the McHenry Police Department, Woodstock Police Department, Spring Grove Police Department, Harvard Police Department, Cary Police Department and the Johnsburg Police Department.
The southbound lanes of Richmond Road at McCullom Lake Road remain closed while MCAT investigates the crash.
