The coroner’s office said they have identified a 34-year-old man who was found dead on the side of a road near a Crystal Lake neighborhood on Sunday.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 8:29 a.m. Sunday to Oak Street and Shipland Drive.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said someone called 911 after finding an unconscious man south of the intersection.

Officers arrived and located a male subject, approximately 35 years old, with no obvious signs of injury.

Paramedics quickly determined the man was dead at the scene, Kotlowski said.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene to assist.

McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein said his office was not able to identify the subject immediately due to the man not having any identification or a cell phone in his possession.

A further investigation led the coroner’s office to identify the man as Jeremy Ochal, 34, of Crystal Lake.

An autopsy was performed Monday and toxicology results are pending, Rein said. A cause of death was not immediately available.

“This case is considered an active investigation. While we are still gathering evidence, we are sure there is no danger to the public as a result of this incident,” Kotlowski said.
