A woman was extricated from her vehicle and hospitalized after she drove her car off the roadway into a park, struck a bench and then crashed into a tree in downtown Libertyville.
The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 3:23 p.m. Wednesday to Route 21 and Church Street for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Officers arrived to find a black Toyota Venza SUV that had left the roadway and drove through a portion of Cook Park.
Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze said an initial investigation determined the Toyota was traveling southbound on Route 21.
The vehicle left the roadway, traveled through the park, struck an unoccupied park bench and then hit a tree.
No one else was inside the Toyota besides the driver. No one in the park was struck by the vehicle, Goze said.
Firefighters extricated the female driver, who was trapped inside the Toyota, Goze said.
The woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, which is not yet known, Goze said.
