A dashcam video captured the moment an SUV slammed into another car and a semi-truck, causing the truck to jackknife on Tuesday in Libertyville.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they received a 911 call of a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday on Route 137 east of Interstate 94 in unincorporated Libertyville.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find two cars and a semi-truck involved in the incident, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.
A preliminary investigation shows a Toyota Highlander and Chevrolet Trailblazer were both traveling eastbound on Route 137 past Interstate 94.
The driver of the Chevrolet lost control, struck a guardrail and then struck the Toyota.
Covelli said this caused both vehicles to make an abrupt left turn and cross into the westbound lanes of traffic where the vehicles both hit a semi-truck.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
Dashcam video submitted to Lake and McHenry County Scanner by a witness shows the Chevrolet driving recklessly just before the crash.
In the video, the Chevrolet can be seen swerving in its lane and then weaving in between cars before the driver loses control of their vehicle.
Covelli said the sheriff’s office has a copy of the video and deputies identified the Chevrolet as being the primary contributor to the crash. The driver will be cited, he added.
