A child is in critical condition after bystanders rescued them from a pond in a Lake in the Hills neighborhood Friday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 12:40 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of Mason Lane in Lake in the Hills for a report of a water rescue.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Eric Bentley said a young child was found in a pond on the Boulder Ridge Golf Course.
Bystanders rescued the child from the water and began resuscitative efforts, Bentley said. The age of the child was not immediately available.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and treated and transported the child to Northwestern Hospital Huntley in critical condition.
A LifeNet medical helicopter landed at the hospital and transferred the child to Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department was on the scene and handling the investigation, Bentley said.
“We would like to remind the residents that bystander CPR can make a difference,” he said.
