Police say that an off-road vehicle with five riders on it rolled over in McHenry on Friday, leaving two people injured, including one seriously that had to be flown to the hospital.

The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 4:30 p.m. Friday to the 4500 block of Lakewood Road for a report of a utility task vehicle (UTV) crash.

An initial investigation determined the UTV was traveling northeast on Lakewood Road when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over, according to the McHenry Police Department.

There were five adult occupants on the UTV. The driver and two of the passengers refused medical treatment.

One passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry, police said. They were then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Another passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.

The McHenry County Regional Crash Assistance Team responded to the crash scene. The team consists of officers from the McHenry Police Department, Woodstock Police Department, Spring Grove Police Department, Harvard Police Department, Cary Police Department and the Johnsburg Police Department.

The driver, Raul Rivera, 47, of Chicago, was issued citations for careless operation of an all-terrain vehicle, operating a non-highway vehicle without proper equipment and operating a non-highway vehicle on city streets without registration.

Rivera was released with a court date of August 16 at the McHenry County Courthouse in Woodstock.
