Metra trains on the Milwaukee District North Line are experiencing extensive delays after a man was struck and killed by a Metra train Tuesday morning in Libertyville.

The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of Wellington Avenue.

Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Jason Kapusinski said officers received a 911 call for a train that struck a pedestrian.

Officers located a male subject struck by an outbound Metra train northwest of Winchester Road along the railroad tracks behind the Cambridge North subdivision.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and confirmed that the man was deceased, Kapusinski said.

The Metra Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Metra said extensive delays were expected after inbound and outbound train movement was halted north of Libertyville due to train #2103 striking a pedestrian.
