A man was killed after his speedboat went off the Fox River and crashed into a tree in the backyard of a Holiday Hills home Wednesday afternoon.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday to the 2400 block of South Riverview Drive in Holiday Hills for a report of a boat crash.

Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a boat on fire on land off of the water, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Byrnes.

The speedboat was occupied by an adult male and paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows that the boat left the Fox River for unknown reasons and came to rest in the backyard of the residence, Byrnes said.

An autopsy is in the process of being scheduled by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
