A driver was uninjured but had to be extricated from her vehicle after it crashed almost completely into a home in Crystal Lake early Monday morning, police said.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a police officer was on patrol around 3:55 a.m. Monday near McHenry Avenue and Berkshire Drive in Crystal Lake.

The officer witnessed an SUV traveling westbound on Berkshire Drive leave the roadway at the intersection and strike a residence.

The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Wonder Lake, was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Firefighters had to extricate the woman from the vehicle. She was shaken up but not injured.

The driver told officers that she fell asleep at the wheel, Kotlowski said, adding that the woman showed no signs of impairment.

No one was inside the bedroom of the home where the vehicle entered at the time of the incident.
