A man in his 20s who went missing while swimming on Round Lake Sunday evening was rescued from the water by bystanders and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 8:03 p.m. Sunday to the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Beach.

Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tony Carraro said a man in his mid-20s was on a boat on Round Lake when he jumped in the water to swim.

The man did not resurface and other occupants of the boat later rescued the man from the south end of the lake, Carraro said.

People on the boat began performing CPR on the man and the boat brought the victim to Bengson Park in Round Lake Park.
