The coroner’s office has identified a 26-year-old man who died from drowning after jumping from a boat into Round Lake Sunday evening in Round Lake Beach.
An autopsy showed that Luis Fernando Vazquez-Velazquez, 26, of Round Lake, died from drowning, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 8:03 p.m. Sunday to the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Beach.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tony Carraro said a man in his mid-20s was on a boat on Round Lake when he jumped in the water to swim.
The man, later identified as Vazquez-Velazquez, did not resurface. Other occupants of the boat later rescued the man from the south end of the lake, Carraro said.
People on the boat began performing CPR on Vazquez-Velazquez and the boat brought the man to Bengson Park in Round Lake Park.
Paramedics arrived and took over performing CPR on the unresponsive victim, Carraro said.
Paramedics transported Vazquez-Velazquez to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead a short time later, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.
The investigation is ongoing by the Round Lake Beach Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
