Police say an SUV became fully submerged in a creek after a man lost control of his vehicle while trying to load a boat onto his trailer in Ingleside.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday to the 35400 block of North Wilson Road in Ingleside for a report of a vehicle in the water.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District was also called to the scene.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident happened at a boat launch that backs up to Squaw Creek, which feeds into Long Lake.

A preliminary investigation shows a 61-year-old Chicago man backed his 2005 Ford SUV down a boat ramp while attempting to load his boat onto the car’s trailer.

Covelli said the man lost control of his vehicle, which continued in reverse into the water before becoming completely submerged.

The man safely exited the submerged vehicle and was not injured during the accident.

The Ford was removed from the water by a tow truck about an hour later, Covelli said.
