Police had to use a taser on a man armed with a knife and physically restrained him after he allegedly slashed and stabbed his father in Marengo Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The Marengo Police Department and Marengo Fire Rescue Protection District responded around 2 p.m. Sunday to the 700 block of Lura Lane in Marengo.
Marengo Police Department Sgt. Adam Boyce said officers received a 911 call for a stabbing and domestic dispute at the residence.
Officers found an adult male that had sustained wounds from a knife, Boyce said. Paramedics were called to treat the victim.
Officers also encountered another male subject, who is a family member of the victim, that was armed with a knife.
A Marengo police officer had to deploy their Taser and physically restrain the younger man, Boyce said.
The suspect was identified as Aidan O’Donoghue, 20, of the 700 block of Lura Lane in Marengo.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court identified the victim as the 20-year-old’s father.
The victim was slashed and stabbed in the arm and head, the complaint said.
The male victim was treated on the scene and released without needing to go to the hospital.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against O’Donoghue that included four counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and four counts of domestic battery.
Boyce said that O’Donoghue was transported to the hospital for an evaluation. An active warrant remains for his arrest.
