Two people were hospitalized after their car rolled over multiple times, causing the victims to become trapped in the vehicle, late Sunday evening in Grayslake.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District and Grayslake Police Department responded around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to Route 120 and Ashford Lane in Grayslake for a rollover crash with injuries.

Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the incident involved a single vehicle.

Firefighters arrived to find two people were trapped inside the car, which had rolled over but came to a rest upright in front of the Flag Chevrolet dealership.

One of the victims was reportedly unconscious, according to fire department radio traffic. It took firefighters approximately 10 minutes to free the victims from the wreckage.

Perlini said both victims are expected to survive but he did not have their current condition or know the extent of their injuries.

A witness said the vehicle appeared to be traveling westbound on Route 120 when it crossed over into the eastbound lanes and left the roadway.

A second witness told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the vehicle flew in the air and rolled over “so many times.”

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, Perlini said, adding that additional details are not available as the police report is not completed yet.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist the Grayslake Police Department in the investigation.

Route 120 between Atkinson Road and Harris Road was closed in both directions for several hours Sunday into Monday morning.
