David M. Krause, 59, of Crystal Lake.

A 59-year-old man was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to undergo an anger management evaluation for pepper-spraying a woman in Crystal Lake.

David M. Krause, 59, of the 900 block of Abbington Drive in Crystal Lake, was charged with aggravated battery in a public place, a Class 3 felony.

A criminal complaint said that Krause sprayed a woman in the face with pepper spray at the intersection of Golf Course Road and Ackman Road in Crystal Lake.

The incident happened on December 20, 2019, and was investigated by the Crystal Lake Police Department, which identified Krause as the suspect.

It is unknown if Krause knew the victim or not. Krause was arrested on the same day the battery occurred, court records show.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reached a negotiated plea deal with Krause and he pleaded guilty to the charge.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge approved the deal and sentenced Krause to 30 days in jail on August 6.

Coppedge also sentenced the man to 240 hours of public service, an anger management evaluation, two years of probation and $1,674 in court fines and fees.

A sentencing order showed that Coppedge found aggravating factors in the case, including Krause inflicting or attempting to inflict “serious bodily injury to another person.”

He also ruled that Krause has a history of “prior delinquency or criminal activity.”

Jail records show that Krause will be released from the McHenry County Jail on September 3.
