Police say a 25-year-old man was flown to the hospital after a crash in unincorporated McHenry County, but they believe the man’s serious injuries did not happen in the crash itself.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Peterson Olson Road and Pleasant Valley Road, which is south of Woodstock and east of Union.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Aimee Knop said deputies were called for a suspicious incident.
Deputies arrived in the area and witnessed a white 2003 Toyota Solara sedan traveling northbound on Peterson Olson Road.
Knop said that the driver attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Pleasant Valley Road but instead drove through a fence into the field.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Protection District spokesman Alex Vucha said his fire district along with the Union Fire Protection District were called to the scene.
Paramedics found the driver of the Toyota with a serious head injury that required transport to a trauma center, Vucha said.
The driver, a 25-year-old Fox River Grove man, was flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital Riverside in Rockford.
Knop said the driver’s injuries were unrelated to the crash but did not say how they happened.
The 25-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle. There was no pursuit or fleeing in the incident, Knop said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division along with patrol deputies are continuing to investigate the case.
