An investigation is underway after an abandoned home burned to the ground early Monday morning in unincorporated Harvard, officials said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Harvard Fire Protection District received a 911 call around 1:45 a.m. Monday.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Matusek said the caller reported a structure on fire near Flat Iron Road and County Line Road.
Matusek said that sheriff’s deputies arrived to find heavy flames engulfing what appeared to be an abandoned home in the 25800 block of Flat Iron Road, which is southwest of Harvard.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue District, Woodstock Fire Rescue District and Union Fire Protection District were also called to the scene.
Matusek said the fire destroyed the structure, leaving only the basement foundation.
Fire officials said a second structure on the property was also damaged during the incident.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
Matusek did not say if the fire is believed to be suspicious or not. No injuries were reported.
