Lake County sheriff’s detectives are investigating after two adult bodies were recovered from Lake Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
A fisherman on Lake Michigan spotted a body floating in the water around 3 p.m. Sunday three miles southeast of the Waukegan Harbor, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.
The United States Coast Guard recovered the body, described as an African American female between the age of 18-40.
The woman is approximately 5-feet-4 and 150-170 pounds. She also had painted fingernails and toenails.
She was wearing a summer dress at the time of the recovery, Covelli said.
A preliminary investigation by detectives suggests the woman was in the water for no more than two weeks.
Later Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m., a United States Coast Guard helicopter conducting a training exercise three miles east of Lake Forest on Lake Michigan located the body of an adult male floating in the water.
The Coast Guard crew recovered the body, Covelli said.
The man, described as Hispanic, is approximately 5-feet-6 and 180 pounds.
He may be one of two individuals who went missing after going for a swim near the 63rd Street Harbor in Chicago on August 8.
Sheriff’s detectives are working with the Chicago Police Department to identify the man, Covelli said. Detectives are actively seeking the identity of the female.
Anyone with any information about the identity of the female is asked to call Lake County sheriff’s detectives at 847-377-4000.
