Four people escaped with only minor injuries after a semi-truck left their pickup truck nearly unrecognizable following a crash on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth.
The Newport Township Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 5:01 a.m. Tuesday to Interstate 94 near Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth.
District 15 troopers arrived to find two vehicles, including a semi-truck, that had collided in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94.
Illinois State Police Trooper Genelle Jones said a preliminary investigation shows a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck slowed down in traffic in order to make a lane change.
A semi-truck traveling behind the Toyota was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the Toyota near milepost 4.8, Jones said.
Both of the vehicles crashed into the concrete median wall to the left of the roadway.
All four occupants of the Toyota were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, Jones said.
The Beach Park, Gurnee and Zion fire departments also responded to the scene.
Lanes 1 and 2 were initially blocked with traffic getting by in lane 3 and the right shoulder.
It is unclear if any citations were issued.
