Over a dozen shots were fired as two vehicles exchanged gunfire Saturday morning at a gas station in Wadsworth, the sheriff’s office said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:10 a.m. Saturday to the Shell gas station, 41867 North Route 41 in Wadsworth, for a report of a shooting.

Deputies arrived and located numerous shell casings that totaled over a dozen, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.

A preliminary investigation shows two vehicles drove into the parking lot and the occupants of each vehicle exchanged gunfire, Covelli said.

Both vehicles fled from the scene. One of the vehicles involved was located unoccupied a short distance away on Route 41.

A sheriff’s canine team conducted a track from the vehicle that ended a short distance away.

Covelli said those who fled from the recovered vehicle are believed to have been picked up by another vehicle.
