A Naperville woman was arrested after police say she stabbed a woman, seriously injuring her, as the two traveled in a car on Interstate 94 in Wadsworth.
The Illinois State Police and Newport Fire Protection District responded around 6:24 p.m. Saturday to eastbound Interstate 94 near Route 173 in Wadsworth for a report of a stabbing call.
District 15 patrol troopers arrived on the scene and immediately arrested the offender, identified as Kayln A. Stewart, 24, of Naperville.
State police said in a statement that troopers found a victim, a 24-year-old Clarendon Hills woman, who had been stabbed in the abdomen.
The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.
An investigation showed that Stewart and the victim had been traveling in the same vehicle on Interstate 94.
Police said that a verbal altercation ensued in the vehicle and it turned physical between Stewart and the victim, resulting in the victim being stabbed in the stomach.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Felony Review approved two felony charges against Stewart that included aggravated domestic battery with great bodily harm, a Class 2 felony, and aggravated battery with a weapon, a Class 3 felony.
Stewart was also transported to a local hospital for unknown reasons.
Stewart has since been released and transported to Lake County Jail pending a bond hearing.
