Three people were rescued by authorities after their sailboat capsized on Bangs Lake in Wauconda Sunday afternoon.

The Wauconda Fire District and Wauconda Police Department responded to multiple reports of a water rescue on Bangs Lake at around 2:06 p.m. Sunday.

Emergency crews arrived and spotted three people clinging onto a capsized sailboat approximately 50 yards from shore, according to a statement released by the Wauconda Fire District.

A Wauconda Police Department boat reached the victims first, the fire district said.

The victims were brought to shore by the boat where they were evaluated by paramedics. No injuries were reported.

All of the passengers were wearing life jackets, according to the fire department’s statement.

It is unknown what caused the boat to capsize.

The fire district reminded the public of the importance of wearing life jackets and the role they played in this incident.
