Many police officers and multiple canine units were sent to an area in Gurnee Sunday evening in search of a suspect wanted for battering a woman, officials said.

The Gurnee Police Department responded around 8:42 p.m. Sunday to the 5700 block of Northridge Drive in Gurnee for a report of a domestic battery.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers arrived and found a female with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned that a male suspect victimized a woman during an argument at an establishment, Gaylor said.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The woman declined medical treatment for her injuries.

Gaylor said Gurnee police officers and deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to conduct a search of the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a heavy police presence near Grand Avenue and Dilleys Road.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said his office sent multiple sheriff’s deputies along with two canine units to assist.
