Four riders were injured, three of them seriously, after two motorcycles crashed on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth Friday morning, state police said.

The Newport Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 10:21 a.m. Friday to Interstate 94 near Russell Road in Lake County for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Illinois State Police Trooper Haylie Polistina said District 15 troopers found two motorcycles that had crash near the 0.3 mile marker in the westbound lanes.

Polistina said that both motorcycles were occupied by a driver and passenger and all four of them sustained injuries.

The fire department reported three of the occupants sustained serious injuries and were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The extent of injuries for the fourth occupant was not immediately known. All four victims are expected to survive, state police reported.

Two LifeNet medical helicopters were initially requested to the scene but later cancelled and paramedics transported the victims by ground ambulances.

State troopers shut down all lanes of westbound Interstate 94 for several hours to conduct a crash investigation.

All lanes of traffic reopened by around 2 p.m. Friday, Polistina said, adding that no additional information was available yet.
