A 17-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was shot in Round Lake and called 911 while traveling in a car near Grayslake late Sunday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 10:35 p.m. Sunday to Behm Lane and Peterson Road in unincorporated Grayslake.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said a male victim called 911 and told dispatchers he had been shot and needed help.
Sheriff’s deputies found the victim in a car that was stopped in the area near the intersection.
Covelli said he did not know the age of the victim, but a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the victim was 17 years old.
The car stopped near Grayslake Fire Protection District station three. However, the car was not specifically driving to the fire station for help.
Deputies provided medical assistance to the victim until paramedics moved up once the scene was confirmed to be secure, Covelli said.
The teen was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Covelli said the victim was in serious condition. A further investigation led to police determining the shooting took place in Round Lake.
The sheriff’s office worked with the Round Lake Police Department and turned the case over to them since it occurred in their jurisdiction, Covelli added.
The Round Lake Police Department has not yet responded to a request for comment on the incident.
