Round Lake police say they still do not know where the actual shooting occurred that left a 17-year-old boy seriously injured Sunday evening.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 10:35 p.m. Sunday to Behm Lane and Peterson Road in unincorporated Grayslake for a report of a gunshot victim.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said a male victim called 911 and told dispatchers he had been shot and needed help.
Sheriff’s deputies found the victim in a car that was stopped in the area near the intersection.
Covelli said he did not know the age of the victim, but a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the victim was 17 years old.
Deputies provided medical assistance to the victim until paramedics moved up once the scene was confirmed to be secure, Covelli added.
Round Lake Police Chief David Prus told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that his officers responded to the scene around 10:53 p.m. after deputies learned the shooting occurred in Round Lake.
Prus said the victim was shot once while he was traveling in a car somewhere in Round Lake. There were two other people in the car.
The car the victim was in drove away from the shooting and the victim called 911. The car stopped near Peterson Road and Behm Lane in unincorporated Grayslake.
Prus said dispatchers did not receive any reports of shots fired in Round Lake at the time of the alleged incident and police are still unsure where exactly it occurred.
Paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and he is expected to survive, Prus said.
Covelli said that the sheriff’s office turned the case over to the Round Lake Police Department since the shooting occurred in their jurisdiction.
The incident remains under investigation by the Round Lake Police Department. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Round Lake Police Investigations Section at 847-546-8112.
