Police are investigating after a woman was hit in the head by a stranger and lost consciousness while she was running on a trail in the Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve near Grayslake.

Lake County Forest Preserves Communication Specialist Kim Mikus confirmed the Lake County Forest Preserves Ranger Police are investigating the incident.

Mikus told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a runner on the trail was “knocked down” by a passing bicyclist, who fled the scene.

A friend of the runner told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the woman was jogging on the trail when someone on a bicycle rode past her and hit her in the head with an unknown object.

The woman blacked out for a few minutes but did not seek medical attention. A description of the suspect was not released.

Mikus did not say where exactly in the forest preserve the incident occurred or if anyone was in custody yet.
