Two months later, police say they are still investigating a case where a jet skier intentionally ran over a mother duck and her 15 ducklings, killing some of them, on Petite Lake in Lake Villa.

Antioch resident Ainsley Brook Wonderling previously said in a social media post that a male was driving a jet ski with a female passenger around 6:30 p.m. on July 20.

The jet ski was traveling in the channel from Petite Lake to Spring Lake, Wonderling said.

“They passed a mother wood duck and her 15 very small ducklings. They spun around, gunned the engine and drove straight into them, allegedly, killing several,” Wonderling said.

“They were told to stop by the photographer who was called a b–ch and the laughing cretins drove off,” she added.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Police Department previously confirmed to Lake and McHenry County Scanner that they were investigating the incident.

Wonderling said in late July that DNR officers had located a matching jet ski. It is unknown if the people involved had been identified.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Tim Schweizer said on Thursday that police were still investigating the case and no additional information was available.

Anyone with information on the suspects or incident is asked to contact Illinois DNR Officer Nick Reid at 815-531-9427.
