Two men were shot, including one who is in critical condition after being shot multiple times, during an early Wednesday morning shooting at a gas station in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 1:02 a.m. Wednesday to the Thorntons, 3233 Grand Avenue in Waukegan, for a report of a shooting.
Officers arrived and found two men shot near the gas pumps at the gas station, which is on the corner of Green Bay Road and Grand Avenue.
Paramedics transported one of the victims, a 34-year-old man, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The 34-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including wounds to the face and body, a source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The second victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The second victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks, has since been treated and released, the source said.
The 34-year-old victim was later transferred from Advocate Condell Medical Center to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and it is not known if there was more than one shooter.
No one is in custody yet, Florip said, adding that the incident remains “open and active.”
