Police are searching for the suspect or suspects who opened fire on an apartment building in Zion Friday morning, killing a 31-year-old man.
The Zion Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. Friday to the 1700 block of Joanna Avenue in Zion for a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived and found a 31-year-old man, who resided at the residence, shot and critically wounded, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli.
The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
The Zion Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
A preliminary investigation shows the victim was inside his home when an unknown person or persons fired several rounds from a gun into the victimโs home from outside, Covelli said.
Major Crime Task Force investigators and evidence technicians continue working with Zion police to investigate the incident.
The Lake County Coronerโs Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy for the victim.
