A Fox Lake man has died after he was ejected from his motorcycle during a high-speed crash on Wednesday in Round Lake Beach, the coroner said.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 7:21 a.m. Wednesday to Hainesville Road and Clarendon Drive.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde Jr. said his department was dispatched for a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection, which is just south of Rollins Road.
Officers arrived and located a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the ditch line with its driver lying next to it, Wilde said.
A preliminary investigation determined the Harley Davidson was traveling northbound on Hainesville Road at a high rate of speed.
The Harley Davidson struck the curb and the driver of the motorcycle was immediately ejected, Wilde said.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the driver as James Semmens, 53, of Fox Lake.
Semmens was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening injuries, Wilde said.
Paramedics transported Semmens to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department continues to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).
