The coroner’s office has identified a 31-year-old man who was shot and killed following a shooting at his apartment building in Zion Friday morning.
A preliminary autopsy showed Che Hearn, 31, of Zion, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Zion Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. Friday to the 1700 block of Joanna Avenue in Zion for a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived and found Hearn, who resided at the residence, shot and critically wounded, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli.
Hearn was transported to an area hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
The Zion Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
A preliminary investigation shows Hearn was inside his home when an unknown person or persons fired several rounds from a gun into the victim’s home from outside, Covelli said.
Major Crime Task Force investigators and evidence technicians continue working with Zion police to investigate the incident.
