The coroner has identified a 25-year-old Waukegan man who was found shot and killed at a gas station in Waukegan Monday morning.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said an autopsy showed that Javier Alcantara, 25, of Waukegan, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip originally said the victim resided in Zion.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man most recently resided in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 5 a.m. Monday to Citgo, 2135 North Green Bay Road in Waukegan, for a report of shots fired.

Florip said officers arrived and located Alcantara in the driver’s seat of a 2014 Chrysler 300. The vehicle was parked near the gas pumps.

The Waukegan Fire Department was called to the scene and paramedics confirmed Alcantara was dead.

The coroner’s office also responded and conducted the autopsy.

The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting.

Shell casings were recovered, but police are not releasing the caliber or number of casings.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspects are in custody yet, Florip said.
