The coroner has identified a 41-year-old man who was killed after his pickup truck struck a pole and rolled over into a retention pond last Tuesday in Huntley.

A preliminary autopsy showed Tomasz J. Wojt, 41, of Chicago, died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

The Huntley Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 5:40 a.m. on September 14 to the area of Charles Sass Parkway west of Route 47.

Huntley Deputy Police Chief Linda Hooten said officers received a report of a single-vehicle traffic crash off the roadway.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 GMC pickup truck was traveling westbound on Charles Sass Parkway — formerly Kreutzer Road — near the curve west of Route 47.

The GMC left the roadway, struck a light pole and rolled partially into the shallow retention pond, Hooten said.

Wojt was ejected from the vehicle and found dead near the water, Hooten said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Huntley Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
