A Winthrop Harbor man was arrested after police learned he was harboring a runaway child and allegedly sexually abused her.
Derron D. Anderson Jr., 35, of the 500 block of North Park Avenue in Winthrop Harbor, was charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of harboring a runaway.
Anderson was arrested on Friday by the Winthrop Harbor Police Department, court records show.
A criminal complaint filed in Lake County Circuit Court alleges Anderson harbored a runaway minor for more than 48 hours and failed to notify law enforcement about it.
While Anderson was harboring the girl, he also sexually abused her in multiple ways, the complaint said.
It is not clear where the girl, who is between 13 and 16 years old, ran away from or how Anderson came into contact with her.
Court documents show the victim was treated at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
Lake County Judge Paul Novak ordered Anderson held in the Lake County Jail on a $350,000 bond. He would need to post $35,000 cash in order to be released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 5.
