Arne J. Gjoen, 28, of Woodstock.

A Woodstock man was arrested and is facing multiple felonies after allegedly trying to meet up with a child in Crystal Lake for sex.

Arne J. Gjoen, 28, of the 400 block of Leah Lane in Woodstock, was charged with grooming, indecent solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said the investigation was conducted by the McHenry County Human Trafficking Task Force.

Gjoen used an electronic device to communicate to lure a person he believed to be under the age of 17 to commit aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a criminal complaint.

Gjoen allegedly discussed a sexual act with a person he believed to be a child, the complaint said.

On September 8, Gjoen traveled to a location in Crystal Lake where he intended to meet the child.

Officers arrested the man around 11 a.m. on September 8 and transported him to the McHenry County Jail.

It is unknown if the case was a sting with an undercover detective or not.

A spokesperson for the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, which runs the McHenry County Human Trafficking Task Force, was not immediately available.

Gjoen, who has no prior record, remains held in jail on a $20,000 bond. He would have to post $2,000 cash in order to be released.

A judge ordered him to have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 as part of his bond conditions.
