A Woodstock man was arrested after he “repeatedly punched” a pregnant woman in the head with his fist in Woodstock, court documents allege.
Michael A. Charnota, 42, of the 1200 block of South Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a pregnant or handicapped person, a Class 3 felony.
Officers with the Woodstock Police Department arrested Charnota around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, court records show.
A criminal complaint said that Charnota repeatedly punched a female victim, knowing she was pregnant, in the head with his closed fist.
The incident occurred on Friday in the 1700 block of South Eastwood Drive.
Charnota remains held in the McHenry County Jail on a $20,000 bond, meaning he would need to post $2,000 cash in order to be released.
Assistant Public Defender Richard Behof asked the court to reduce bond and said Charnota “is not a danger to the community” and not a flight risk.
According to Illinois State Police records, Charnota is a registered sexual predator and is listed as non-compliant for failing to maintain updated registration records.
A bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
