A woman was seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital after a rollover crash on the far southwest side of McHenry County near Marengo on Saturday.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:06 a.m. Saturday to the intersection of Route 23 and Poplar Road in unincorporated Marengo.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communications Specialist Alex Vucha said authorities received a call for a vehicle crash with entrapment just north of the intersection.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a single vehicle that had rolled over onto its roof in the roadway.
A woman, who was the driver of the car, was trapped inside, Vucha said. Extrication immediately began to free the injured driver.
Due to the severity of the woman’s injuries, a medical helicopter was requested to the scene to transport her to a Level 1 trauma center.
A Mercy REACT helicopter flew the woman to Javon Bea Hosptial – Riverside in Rockford in serious condition.
Vucha said no one else was inside the woman’s vehicle and only the rolled-over car was involved in the crash.
An investigation into how the crash occurred is being conducted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
