A driver who fled after crashing a stolen motorcycle in Antioch prompted a large police response Sunday evening, officials said.

The Antioch Police Department responded around 6 p.m. Sunday to the area of North Avenue and Drom Court.

Village of Antioch Communication Specialist Jim Moran said officers received a call for a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that lost control.

Officers discovered an unoccupied motorcycle in a nearby yard.

A subsequent investigation found that the driver of the motorcycle had fled the scene on foot and that the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Chicago, Moran said.

Responding officers set up a perimeter around the crash site with the assistance of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Villa Police Department.

The Wheeling Police Department provided a canine unit to assist with the search.

Despite a search by the canine unit, the offender was unable to be located, Moran said.
