The coroner said a 22-year-old man has been taken off life support and pronounced dead after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver near Vernon Hills over the weekend.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the victim to Lake and McHenry County Scanner as Wojciech Glowik, 22, of Glenview.

Banek said Glowik was taken off a ventilator at Advocate Condell Medical Center and pronounced dead Monday afternoon.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 2:10 a.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Route 45 in Indian Creek near Vernon Hills.

A preliminary investigation shows the man was walking on or near the roadway.

Based on evidence recovered, traffic crash investigators believe he was struck by a passing white Audi SUV that was traveling southeast on Route 45, Covelli said.

The driver of the Audi did not stop after striking Glowik and continued southeast on Route 45.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in an update on Monday that the white Audi was manufactured between 2007 and 2017. It is a model Q5 or Q7.
