A teenage football player was flown to the hospital after sustaining an injury during a game Friday evening at Richmond-Burton Community High School.

The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. Friday during a varsity football game between the Richmond-Burton Rockets and Harvard Hornets at Richmond-Burton Community High School, 8311 Route 31.

Richmond Township Fire Chief Henry Gruba told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a football player sustained an injury after being hit by another player during the game.

Paramedics were already on standby at the school during the game, Gruba said.

According to fire radio traffic, the patient suffered a back injury and he was slowly regaining feeling and movement from his left side. He was conscious and alert at the time.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested for the player and it landed at a baseball field south of the football field, according to fire radio traffic.

Witnesses told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the football player was a part of the Harvard Hornets.

The player was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to radio traffic.

His condition and exact injuries are unknown.
